board of advisors
I was just joking with rzrsharp that he was going to be on my board of advisors. After saying that I realized that a) he has always been a source of information and inspiration to me and b) having a board of advisors is a fab idea. Of course we all have networks - or should - but I sense that an interesting exercise would be to formalize the notion of a small cadre of folks to serve as your BofA.
What might this accomplish? Hell if I know. Personally, it would codify my interests and pursuits at a given time by the skill sets and expertise of the folks on the board. In my new capacity as new media art student I am thinking that it would be immensely helpful to have reliable people with whom I have a history to use as a sounding board, critics, testers, and troubleshooters. Also, by keeping these folks abreast of what I am doing I benefit from their ears and eyes in their respective fields; they are more likely to have me in mind as they come across interesting opportunities; and they are more likely to be involved in projects/grants/etc. where I need collaborators.
I am not sure where this will lead, but I was struck by the notion.
