Thanks razorsharp for this link. As a resident of the Bay I have to say that I agree with everything that the author says…and that is why I am less than enamored by this area. Overall I have a hmmm, like / non-plussed feeling towards The Bay. In general I find the culture to be way too self-aware. Aware of their roles as technology ambassadors; aware of their roles of liberal standard bearers; aware of their roles as voices of political reason. All shouted atop their soapboxes that overlook a city with the lowest percentage of African-Americans of any city in California, the lowest number of children per capita of any city in the United States, absurd rents requiring adults of all ages and families to have roommates, and many more examples of unique circumstances that make life untenable for all but a select slice of any society.
In general, San Franciscans don’t realize they are privileged and that most of their political rhetoric presupposes a certain social and economic standing in our society. But I love the quirkiness of this place and will always find its quirks charming.

This is so perfect for me on so many levels…
I can vouch for several of these apps, but the coolest one that I have recently downloaded is Alfred. Alfred is so convenient that I don’t even go to my Applications folder any longer and I don’t go to the Google site (or the Firefox, Safari, etc. search bar) any longer for searches.
I am most excited to try out Fluid. If it works the way it is billed then the browser tab proliferation problem should vanish.
Oh, and of course Dropbox! With Dropbox I am free to kill my Me.com account.
a worthy objective from The Gapping Void.
It’s nice to know you’re not crazy. To really get this cartoon by Hugh MacLeod you should read this excellent blog post by Venkatesh Rao. I am still in the middle of reading it, but I had to stop and post about it. The breeze of sanity that blows when someone expresses articulates your existential paradoxes is one of the sweetest metaphysical feelings.
In the post Venkatesh outlines an organizational theory derived from The Office, The Organization Man and Hugh’s cartoon. If you are like me and have had fundamental issues with your role in the organization, have struggled to find balance between your personal ambitions and your professional aspirations, and have a broad perspective of companies and industries then you will find this article enlightening.
The misses and I have been on a workout kick lately. This one is not appropriate for us, but perhaps for you or one of your friends ? (Well, actually I could still use this as a workout I suppose)
Nice, I didn’t know that mediaTemple gridserver had Git installed.
It’s about time that web designers, not just developers, start using version control, and while staying as far as possible away from the SVN vs. Git battle that still rages on, I just use Git and pretend like SVN never existed.
We use media temple to host much of our clients work and stage up…
